Description

Sleeve nuts, also known as coupling nuts or extension nuts, are specialized fasteners designed to join two male threads—typically threaded rods or bolts—end-to-end, extending their effective length. These cylindrical nuts are hollow and internally threaded, and they play a crucial role in a wide range of structural, mechanical, and engineering applications. Their strength, simplicity, and versatility make them essential components in industries such as construction, automotive, aerospace, furniture, and machinery.

These nuts are available with a CSK head and Socket drive.

Design and Construction of Sleeve Nuts

Sleeve nuts are typically elongated, hexagonal, or round in shape and made from high-strength materials like carbon steel, stainless steel, brass, or aluminum. The choice of material often depends on the application and environmental conditions. For instance, stainless steel sleeve nuts are preferred for corrosive environments, while carbon steel variants are ideal for heavy-duty structural applications.

Internally, sleeve nuts are fully or partially threaded, with threading specifications that correspond to the rods or bolts they are meant to connect. The length of the nut can vary significantly depending on the intended load, strength requirements, and application. Standard sizes range from M6 to M30 or their imperial equivalents, with custom sizes also available for specialized needs.

Applications of Sleeve Nuts

  1. Construction and Steel Fabrication: In buildings, bridges, and steel structures, sleeve nuts are used to connect long tie rods, often in tensioning systems or bracing assemblies.

  2. Mechanical Systems: Sleeve nuts are used in machines where component extension or secure alignment of rods is required, such as in hydraulic cylinders or mechanical linkages.

  3. Furniture Assembly: Decorative sleeve nuts can be used to join parts where a visible connector must also be aesthetically pleasing.

  4. Automotive and Aerospace: Used in steering linkages, frame assemblies, or suspension systems to extend control arms or stabilizers.

  5. Tension Rod Systems: In architectural systems like glass façades or cable railings, sleeve nuts help maintain structural integrity under load.
