Description
Castle nuts are a type of a nut with slots at one end of the nut. These slots or notches at one end of the nut give it the appearance of a medieval castle. They are also called slotted nuts or castellated nuts.
They are used in conjunction with a split (or cotter) pin to prevent the nut from loosening. The pin is inserted through the slots into a hole in the screw on which the nut is fixed. This locks the nut in place.
