Description

Broaching press nut is a mechanical fastener with internal threads and external knurls or ridges (called broach teeth). When the nut is pushed into a ductile base material such as mild steel, aluminum, or certain plastics, the broach teeth displace and cut the surrounding material, embedding the nut into the host substrate. This results in a mechanically locked and torque-resistant fastening point.

The installation typically involves a hydraulic or pneumatic press, applying downward force to drive the nut into the pre-formed hole. The precision-designed broach features guarantee proper seating and load-bearing capabilities without the need for secondary operations like welding or tapping.

Key Features of Broaching Press Nut

  1. Serrated or Broach Teeth: These external features are responsible for cutting into and displacing the host material, ensuring tight retention and torque resistance.

  2. Reusability: Broaching nuts offer durable internal threads that can handle multiple assembly/disassembly cycles.

  3. Flush or Near-Flush Fit: Once installed, many broaching press nuts sit flush or slightly raised from the surface, making them suitable for tight-clearance applications.

  4. High Torque and Pull-Out Resistance: The mechanical interlock created by the broach teeth gives excellent resistance to loosening under load or vibration.

  5. Quick Installation: Ideal for automated or manual press-fitting processes, reducing overall assembly time.

Common Applications of Broaching Press Nut

Broaching press nuts are widely used across industries where sheet metal or molded components are common:

  1. Automotive Industry: Used in chassis panels, electrical enclosures, dashboards, and control units.

  2. Electronics and Enclosures: Ideal for mounting PCBs, switches, and connectors in metal casings.

  3. Aerospace and Defense: Ensures strong, secure threading in lightweight structural components.

  4. Home Appliances: Facilitates strong joints in thin metal housing for washing machines, refrigerators, etc.

  5. Telecommunications: Used in network enclosures and switchboards for robust thread retention.
