Description

Allen Button Head Cap Screw is a widely used fastener known for its sleek appearance, efficient torque transfer, and reliable holding strength. It is often chosen for its balance of function and form, combining a clean, low-profile head with the practicality of a hex socket (Allen) drive. These screws are commonly found in mechanical assemblies, consumer products, furniture, electronics, and many industrial applications.

The Socket Button Head Screw design as per ISO 7380-1 is primarily used where a lower profile head is required and for aesthetical reasons.

Button head socket cap screws combine the similar shape of a pan head with the driver of a socket head. The socket driver is ideal for low clearance applications that require a large area clamping face.

Compared to a standard socket head cap screw, button heads have a lower and wider profile which can be useful when the clamping material is too thin to counter-bore.

A button head socket cap screw’s large diameter face also helps to distribute force more evenly. They are also known as Button Head Cap Screws or BHCS.

Design and Structure of Allen Button Head Cap Screw

a. Button Head

The button head is a defining feature of this screw. It has a low-profile, dome-shaped top with a wide, smooth surface and rounded edges. Unlike socket head cap screws, which have a cylindrical head, the button head sits closer to the material surface and offers a more refined aesthetic. This head style makes it ideal for applications where the screw head will remain visible or where a snag-free surface is needed.

b. Allen Drive (Hex Socket)

The drive type is an internal hex, commonly referred to as an Allen drive. It accepts hex keys or Allen wrenches for tightening and loosening. The key advantages of the Allen drive include:

  • Better torque transfer compared to slotted or Phillips screws.

  • Reduced cam-out, allowing for smoother and safer installation.

  • Minimal tool slippage, which reduces the chance of damaging the fastener or the surrounding material.

Common Applications of Allen Button Head Cap Screw

Allen button head cap screws are used in a broad range of applications, often chosen for their appearance as well as their performance:

  • Consumer Products: Found in electronics, appliances, and household items where exposed fasteners are part of the design.

  • Furniture and Fixtures: Used in flat-pack furniture, shelving, and modular fixtures due to their aesthetic appeal and ease of use.

  • Automotive and Motorcycle: Utilized in non-critical areas such as dashboards, trim panels, and aftermarket components where a smooth, finished look is desired.

  • Bicycles and Sporting Equipment: Common in lightweight and custom components where looks and performance matter.

  • Machinery and Automation: Employed in enclosures, control panels, guards, and other non-load-bearing parts.

  • Architecture and Interior Design: Chosen for decorative fixtures, signs, and railing systems where visible fasteners must blend with the design.
